Bootable Backup should use 16 gig or larger USB Flash drive.

DVD's break down over time, Flash drives retain their data for decades. The DBAR bootable usb flash will recover to a new blank hard drive.

Thank you.  Used F12 and had the recovery partition restore to factory software.

Criticisms:

1.  Hinge has way too much resistance.  Not easy to open the lid.  Need two hands.  No way to loosen the high tension.
2.  Power adapter goes in on left side of case, not the back.  Cantilever protrusions with easy access  increase risk of breakage.  90 degree angled end piece would have been wiser.
3.  Clarity of text (at the proper resolution) is not nearly as good as the MacBookPro, and colors not as vibrant.  In fact, it's impossible to read some grey text even after calibration.  Colors are not vibrant.
4.  Trackpad insensitive and irregular and poor.  Sometimes the cursor won't even move when one finger is on the trackpad.   Two finger scrolling is too slow despite setting it at the fastest speed.  Dell needs to learn from the Macintosh excellent and responsive trackpad.   I don't want to use a mouse as it erodes into the reason for it being portable.
5.  Excessively glossy screen.  Rather have AG/AR screen even if it is more breakable.
6.  Only one USB 3 port, and none of the ports are posteriorly
7.  WiFi bandwidth less than half of MacBookPro, and all the software updates have been applied.  120 MBPS on my Mac,  50 MBPS on this i7 Dell.  Recently found this restricted bandwidth is a common criticism of this model.
8.  Audio volume max could be higher, and it can be muffled depending upon which surface the laptop is placed.  Sound would be better if transmitted to the keyboard area where there is ample space.
.
Compliments:
1.  Price---  $800 to $900.
2.  Win 7 Professional
3.  Keyboard well-backlit and keys are above average
.
Summary:  Will not keep this laptop.

Any comments/replies ?    This glossy screen is disgusting, and it seems all the Inspirons have glossy reflective screens.

The only opinion that matters is your own, as you will be using the system.  Yes, most consumer-grade notebooks these days do have glossy screens - no matter which brand name is on the outside.   You should be able to return the system in favor of one with a matte screen (which may mean buying a Latitude system, as matte screens are far more common on business-grade systems).  If you want a touch screen, though, they are almost all going to be similarly glossy as there's a glass panel over the screen.

If a matte screen is good for business users, why not standard consumers?   The gloss is such a distraction.  Unless this screen can be modified via an overlay, my three friends and I will return our four laptops.

Why did Dell make these screens so distractingly and annoying reflective ?

From where did you determine that the screen is Gorilla Glass ?

Been testing this N5000.  Nice backlit keyboard.

If I want to restore the internal drive to the way it came from the factory, does one boot into the recovery partition ?

OR

There's an App "Dell Backup and Recovery", but it's not clear how to make DVDs which will restore factory software.  There's "Bootable Backup" but it sounds like it won't factory restore, but backup the way the internal disk is now.

Help !

Found the answer to the above.  Factory Restore backup made.

Only two problems remain with this laptop:

•  1.  WIFI SPEED LESS THAN HALF MY MACBOOK PRO:  Dell =  55 MBPS, Mac = 120 MBPS.  Why ?

•  2.  The trackpad is not as good as the Mac.  Despite scrolling speed at maximum, it doesn't two finger scroll fast.  Trackpad is less sensitive to finger touch.
