That will depend on the router you have -- there's no point upgrading the wireless card if your router can't support anything faster than what the current card does.

If you don't want to open the system, you can also use an external USB wireless adapter.

Example:

Some of these are small enough they can be left connected all the time.

Thanks for the reply.  I would prefer to have the internal card replaced.  I also have a problem with my bluetooth.  M bluetooth earpiece will not connect to the laptop.  It does connect to my tablets.  That is why I tried to reinstall the drivers.

If you need upgraded bluetooth support, any standard mini-PCIe network adapter requiring two antenna leads should be fine.

I may have found why the refresh of the driver did not work.

The latest driver available on the Dell Support site for my 15R 5520 shows an issue date of 10/4/2013, version 6.30.223.143, A00.

The device manager says that the installed driver has a date of 11/17/2014, version 6.5.1.6000.  The device manager also says that this is the current up to date driver.  Dell does not show this on their web site that I can find.

So, I need to see if I can find the current driver.  Any suggestions?

The device manager says I have a Dell wireless 1704 Bluetooth v4.0+HS card.

I'm trying to use a TB-92EX bluetooth headset by True Blue.  It's a headset for a phone. It worked for a while then stopped working.  The headset is bluetooth version 2.1 compliant, class 2.

Now that I think about it, another problem I have may be related to the wi-fi card.  For several months now I get a page that says he internet connection was reset while loading and I have to click the try again button - sometimes several times before it connects.  I don't know if that is the card or the driver that needs to be reloaded.

Which model wireless card do you have, and what model headset are you connecting?

Thanks for the link.

I see 2 problems with it.  I have a 15R 5520 and this driver does not say it is for the 5520.  The current driver installed on my 5520 is dated 11/17/2014 which is newer that this link.

I can find the info on the driver I have but I can't find a site where i can reinstall the driver.

I do not understand why this is so difficult to do!  All I want to do is refresh my driver for my wi-fi/bluetooth card to see if the refresh improves performance.

If I can't do that I am asking which new wi-fi/bluetooth internal card should I get and have installed to improve the performance.

I'm currently using Win 7 Home but I'll update to Win 10 in the future.

Dell has been no help.  They don't even know which driver their wi-fi/bluetooth card is using  and they want to charge me for any help.  So much for customer respect.

I get driver dates from 2012 to 2015 when I check for a "current" driver.

As you can tell, I'm a little frustrated here.  This should not be hard.  Just find the driver, download and install the driver and be done.
