Installing Precision T3500 motherboard into a new chassis?
I'm doing up an old T3500 and want to make use of liquid cooling, obviously I will need to buy a new case and transfer the mainboard into it, however the motherboard does not seem to be normal ATX size and am wondering what the actual size/design of the motherboard is (taking into account screw hole positions?) so I can buy the right case that supports this motherboard?

There was discussion on this quite a while back. The power on Button being the one "Important" thing. However I think the thermal sensor for the board is also on the front panel so I further doubt that this is a "solution"
It cant be 17 and 20 perhaps 19 and 23 or is it 4 pin 17 and 23?
Disclaimer It may or may not work. I'm not willing to ruin a board to find out.
.As with most Dells there is a proprietary Front Panel Board and 20 pin or more ribbon cable.

Bigger issue is the connector between motherboard and front panel. Dell typically uses a custom cable connection so you may not be able to connect that motherboard to the front panel in a new case.
Even another Dell case might not work because the connectors vary from model to model.
Dell doesn't make the pin assignments for the front panel public so unless somebody else has already done the homework, or unless you can map the pin-outs yourself...

I don't know how to reply on this thread without quoting?
I can probably re-wire Dell's front panel myself, but there's no point if I haven't got another case to transfer the motherboard to. The motherboard is about 305mm x 350mm which is about 20mm longer than EATX and is still WAY smaller on both dimensions than WATX (looking at wikipedia). I also have no idea if the screw positions are the same as standard or if Dell puts them wherever they feel like putting them?

It's not a question of re-wiring Dell's front panel. It's a question of whether you can wire the Dell motherboard to the front panel of a non-Dell case and make it work.
Dell doesn't always use standard sizes or layouts for their motherboards. Maybe somebody else will know if this board can be fitted into another case. But even if it can fit, you'll still have to wire the front panel.
Sounds like major surgery to me...

The front panel with the power button/usb/number lights/etc is quite easy to pull out on the T3500. I could probably quite easily just mount it in a 5.25" panel and install it that way.
Thanks for your help on this because I hadn't thought of the front panel, I am hoping someone else still comes along and answers my question though :)
