Dell E7450, CPU 100 degrees C under stress test. Should I worry?
Hello everybody,
I started in a new job recently and received a brand new Latitude 7450 with i7 5600U and 16 GB RAM.
I noticed that the fan is running at high speeds often, which I started to find a little odd, because sometimes when it happens, I'm not even doing anything on the pc. This morning the fan was running at high speed just after I booted the pc and it kept on doing it for 10-15 minutes. Eventually I put the pc to sleep as I was in the middle of a meeting and it was kind of disturbing my concentration.
I installed SpeedFan and Prime95 to see the temperatures under stress, and SpeedFan shows a constant CPU temperature of 102-103 degrees Celcius while doing the "Small FFTs" test. That seems crazy high to me, but then again, I haven't really used SpeedFan before, so I don't know how accurate it is. I have attached a screenshot of SpeedFan and Task Manager CPU overview while the stress test was running.
The 'Core 0' and 'Core 1' temperatures, where shown by default in SpeedFan - the 'CPU' temperature appeared after I enabled DELL Support in the Options menu.
Should I be worried about this? I haven't talked to our Support department yet, as I don't really want to do without my PC unless it's really necessary as I have a lot to do atm.
Any help will be highly appreciated.

Hello and good morning
If the CPU is running at 100 degrees Celsius then your processor is 212+ degrees (the temperature of boiling water).
Personally, I would SHUTDOWN immediately and take it to your lab and request another computer.

The CPU and GPU under stress test will hit max possible temperature. This is done to test if the hardware is functional or if it crashes when under stress. If the test reports an error, then the hardware might have possibly failed and needs to be replaced. If the stress test comes clean, then you do not have to worry about CPU or GPU.
Regarding the fan, if the fan is noisy - then Update the BIOS from support.dell.com - http://dell.to/1kGWIcI - enter the service tag and select drivers and downloads and run the BIOS update.
Also, download the service manual from the above link for your system - open the machine and clean the air vents with a small vacuum cleaner or a can of compressed air, if possible. This is usually caused if there is dust accumulated in the air vents.
If the issue is not resolved, after updating the BIOS and cleaning of the vents, then fan would need to be replaced.

that's way to hot, id check and see if the vent is clean, I wouldn't take it apart though since its a corporate computer id let the IT know, a lot of times the vents get clogged and they might have to take it apart and clean it out, my i7 2630 l702x doesn't even get that hot, max ive seen 85c under load, they do run hot no doubt in that but previously when I first bought it off a guy it was going as high as 92c without doing anything, I shut it off took it apart and lo and behold dust clogging the vent and thermal paste needed badly changed, put some artic silver on both the gpu and cpu and runs great since
heck get some canned air and spray in the vent when the pc is off be prepared for dust to fly out though

I actually cancelled the test after about 15-20 minutes, so I don't know the end results. About the fan; it's not unnaturally noisy, it's just on full speed way more often than I would expect - sometimes when I'm not even doing anything, and the processor also gets hot (above 80 C). As stated in my first post, sometimes this happens just after I have booted, and it keeps on going for 10-15 minutes.
At this very moment SpeedFan is reporting my CPU temp to be around 57 Celcius, and I'm just running 2 Chrome windows (15 tabs in total), Hangouts, Skype for busines, Spotify (minimized to Tray) - I have 2 monitors hooked up to the dock that my laptop is connected to though. A couple of times the temp has rosen to almost 80 C and then the fan turns on and the temp drops again. Is this normal?
Btw, my BIOS was updated a couple of weeks ago when I had another issue, which turned out to be something that wasn't specific for my laptop.
Edit: Also, the laptop is a brand new one, I wouldn't expect a cleaning of the vents to be necessary - am I correct in assuming this?

Restart the system and keep tapping on f12 key and select diagnostics. Run the test and make a note of any errors that you might possibly encounter and reply with the error details.
