Do you have the link where you downloaded the new firmware?

Because I did a binary comparison of the file I saved on February 4th and the one at Dell Support right now and the two files are identical.

I just processed my return on the phone. I'm sending mine back- it's been less stable with these more recent drivers. This is disappointing because the only reason I bought a $1300 Dell XPS 13 is because my other machine wasn't stable in its dock.

Did you at any time did mess with the button on top of the dock? I tried to see what that does and I ended up with the same problem. I shut the computer down and closed the lid, but when I opened the lid later and was going to hit the laptop's power button to restart it, it already began starting. From the little icon for that button on the dock in the Quick Start Guide, it appears that there is some sort of timer setting with that button. The only way I could fix the start up issue was to play some more with the button (try holding it down for ten or more seconds) and then it went back to shutting down completely as before. I wish Dell would give us more information on what that button does as well as some wording defining all the ports on the dock. Those little icons do not hack it.

FYI - If you search for "Thunderbolt Dock" in the search box on the support.dell.com, The TB15 User Guide is the first hit.  This may have already been available, but it is the first I have seen of it.  Page 12 of the PDF begins the steps to update the driver base ...

Regarding the supposedly new Dock firmware version Dell has posted on the support site, the details says that it added support for the TD15 but the version is the same. What is the TD15 as compared to the TB15 or is this a typo?

Am I reading it right that this dock's hdmi port is only 1.4a, not 2.0?

Is that bonkers to anyone else?

Hi,

We have released some more information on the Thunderbolt dock. If you read this article it explains the dock features and what to have installed before using it (refer to the Dell Thunderbolt Dock (Big Mountain Express, TB15) section.

Most of the drivers for the dock have been updated in the past 2 days with various fixes, so please apply the drivers and BIOS in this order:

System specific drivers (1):

1. Update the BIOS to the latest version for your system

2. Install the Intel Thunderbolt Controller Driver under Chipset for your system

Thunderbolt Dock specific drivers:

3. Install the Intel(R) Thunderbolt(TM) 3 Firmware Update

4. Install the Realtek USB GBE Ethernet Controller Driver for Dell Thunderbolt Dock and Dell Dock

5. Install the Realtek USB Audio Driver for Dell Wireless Dock, Dell Thunderbolt Dock, and Dell Dock.

6. Install the ASMedia USB 3.0 Extended Host Controller Driver for Dell Thunderbolt Dock

System specific drivers (2):

7. Then on your system make sure that the Video drivers are updated.

a. For nVidia discrete systems install the Intel Graphics Driver then install the nVidia Driver.

b. For AMD discrete systems install the Intel Graphics Driver then install the AMD Driver.

8. Lastly install the Audio driver for your system

Hopefully doing all this with the updated drivers should resolve the issues you are seeing

The manual for the dock is also available here

Colin - many of these drivers will give you the option to uninstall or "repair" - should the drivers be uninstalled and then reinstalled with the updated versions? Is there any word about how to uninstall the Thunderbolt 3Firmware because I don't think mine is installing correctly. Would like to start from scratch.

Thanks

Those are the same driver versions already available, just in a different place on the site.  I appreciate you guys working on this, but please let your support staff know the issues still aren't fixed with the Precision 5510 and the TB15.

Is there a bios/firmware/driver update for those that applied the latest and it broke their TB port and but not using the dock? My monitor is connected with TB to DP  cable and it constantly disconnects. It worked before I applied the latest updates. I have a Dell 34 UW monitor.

I think the issue is with the laptop port and not completely the docks fault.

Colin- Thank you for posting the information. I have had the dock for over a week, and of course experienced many of the previous issues that are outlined on this forum (and few others). I have also attempted to follow your instructions as well, the net result is:

1. I receive the error: "The signature of Chipset_Driver_9YCYO_WIN64...is corrupt or invalid." when attempting to install the Realtek USB GBE Ethernet Controller. Item #4 on your list. This error has occurred from the time I received the dock, and I noticed it was mentioned by someone else on this forum.

2. All other drivers (skipping the Realtek USB GBE step) seem to install correctly.

3. Coincidentally, the problem appears to be Ethernet related. As soon as I plug the Ethernet cable in to the dock, problems occur (example: Logitech USB mouse, YouTube video test - act erratically). Eventually, the monitors begin to lose video signal, and cycle on/off.

4. In Wifi mode only, (ie. Ethernet cable is not plugged in to the dock), the issues listed in #3 do not occur. Clearly, it points to the Ethernet, and likely related to the error I receive listed in #1.

5. As to other issues mentioned by other users:

a. The laptop fan is constantly on when connected to the dock.

b. Shutting the laptop lid (even when selecting "Do Nothing" option) originally caused issues, although I have not tested it recently.

HW:  XPS 9550, U2711 and U2412M monitors. Sadly, I've initiated a return of the dock, primarily to ensure that I'm covered within the return policy. I anticipate that these issues will eventually be resolved, and I'll be happy to repurchase the dock.

I spoke too soon.  With the latest Thunderbolt 3 firmware update (release 2/16) I was 90% stable on my XPS 13 9350.

In 1.5 days I had had only

- 2 disconnect/reconnects with the USB ports and Ethernet port on the dock.

- 1 lockup requiring a restart

Trying to get to 100% stable I re-installed a few of the drivers that showed being updated 2/16 (pretty sure I already had all of these installed) and now I'm back to having to plug all USB connections straight into my XPS and run on WiFI. Back to where I was since release.  I'm guessing one of the drivers reversed something that the Firmware 2/16 release "partially" fixed.

Thank you! I was just about to do the same thing (until I read your post) so think I will hold off any further updates until my 2nd TB 15 arrives in a couple of weeks. What a confusing mess !!

I'm curious, when you installed the new Realtek drivers did you get a screen with only 2 options either uninstall or repair - did you "repair" or uninstall and then do a fresh install of the drivers?

Glad I could be your tester dummy :-)

I selected "repair" for both.  Everything else reinstalled successfully.  I even went back and tried to re-install the firmware thinking it would override any setting changed by the other driver installs.  Had not luck with that either.

Update: Was able to install the Realtek USB GBE.

Before installing the Realtek USB GBE, it was at least somewhat useable in Wifi mode( I had also installed the Nvidia driver from the Nvidia website versus the Dell website (361.91 versus 358.94).

After installing the Realtek USB GBE, and following all instructions as noted by Colin (multiple times), including installing the 358.94 Nvidia Dell driver, the system:

a. Reverted back to both monitors randomly losing video.

b. Unable to determine if the Ethernet cable connected to the dock played a role, because the monitors kept losing signal, etc.

No Events found!
