Hi, 

You can try take out the optical drive out and then power on the machine, this will give us an little idea as to what might be causing the problem, whether the motherboard connector or the optical drive itself.

Put back the drive again and try to power up.

Can't believe I didn't think of this. Duh! Yeah, removing the CD tray worked and now my laptop is CD free as well as problem free. It's weird the CD tray caused that though.
