Unable to Load Windows

I have a Dell Inspiron 17R-7720 Laptop.  I had upgraded Windows from 7 (unsure of which 7 version) to 10 and had been having no issues.  One Friday I shut down the laptop to come home, got home and found a message telling me that Windows can't load.  Trying to reset the PC had no effect as I kept getting an unknown error, even downloading the installation tool for Win 10 on another PC didn't work.  I tried to do the same for Win 7 (my wife's laptop was never upgraded), but that did not help either.  At this point the only way I see to fix the issue is to restore the laptop to factory, correct?  Problem is I can't find my recovery software, is there some where I can download it?

Sometime tomorrow Microsoft should make Windows 10 TH2 .isos available. I advise trying to use these to directly Clean Install Windows 10 TH2.

Will that wipe all the data off my laptop as well as using the restoration software?  It is still possible to get the restoration software so I can go back to Windows 7?

If you want to recover your data use Fedora:

http://dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/data-recovery-using-fedora/

If you want your original OS and are in warranty go to:

Is there someplace I can download an iso of the recovery DVD for my laptop though?  Especially if I want to go back to Windows 7 and not use Windows 10 anymore?

Are you sure it is a Windows problem? You have not been very specific about the nature of the message you’re getting. Could it be a BIOS misconfiguration, perhaps? Maybe the computer just cannot find the Windows installation? Sometimes the contents of the memory holding the configuration can become corrupted. Just guessing…

No -- you'd have to contact Dell to purchase a set of recovery media for your system.

When I boot up, I get the AutoRepair boot logo for Windows and then three options.

Continue - Exit and continue to Windows 10

Troubleshoot - Reset your PC or more advanced options

Turn off your PC

Clicking on Continue just starts the cycle over, I have tried all of the Troubleshoot options and each ones ends with a message reading, "an error occured, no changes have been made"

I just tried booting up with Fedora on a USB stick, and can't see the harddrive, so maybe it is the harddrive after all and not a software problem, but I'm not sure where to go from here.

I don’t have an Inspiron, but the first thing I’d do on any computer would be to go into BIOS and check that all settings look OK:
Does the disk show up as expected? Is it the boot drive? Do other related settings look as they should?

In your case, given the messages, this is likely to be in order since your computer appears to start booting from the disk.

The next thing in my book would be to run the built-in diagnostics, if there are any in Inspiron.

I mean, something had to happen in-between your shutting down the computer and trying to run it again at home.

Possibly, it was not shut down properly, but Windows would handle that. Some kind of hardware failure seems more likely in your case. I’d say just rule this possibility out before trying to install whatever.
