Hello.

As stated by the Flash1932, you can create RAID 5 using Ctrl+R utility during POST,  highlighting controller PD Mgt and pressing F2 to create a Virtual Disk (VD) and selecting appropriate options. You may also create RAID 5 using Open Manage Server Administrator (OMSA), as illustrated below:

2.

3.

4.

Let me know whether you need any further assistance.

The process is not difficult. Assuming you have a PERC H700 or PERC 6/i, simply boot to the CTRL-R utility, highlight the controller, hit F2, Create/New, select all the drives, select the RAID level, and select the Advanced and Initialize boxes.

Hi All

I went through the same steps and only to realise that 1 of the drives is faulty because I am supposed to have 6 500 Gig SAS drives and 1 is faulty. So now I  need to Find a replacement before I can continue. Then I need to load Winows server 2008 on this machine so that I can see how well will it run

You CAN install it now and add the sixth disk later.

Keep in mind that if you create a single 2.5TB array (6x500 in RAID 5 = 2.5TB), you MUST set the boot mode to UEFI. You can ONLY boot in UEFI mode if you are using the 64-bit version of Server 2008.

What am i doing wrong?

Wow THEFLASH1932!

What you told me works like charm.

Now the only issue is to boot with an operating system since i decided to use BIOS Boot Manager instead of the other option.

Now i've setup my RAID 5 and ill replace the faulty disk later. now when i insert a windows server 2008 disc my server does not boot to disk?

Ok, just remember that you can't have a boot "disk" larger than 2TB in BIOS mode, so there isn't much point in adding your sixth drive to the RAID 5 when you get it, because you can't use all the space with all six disks in the same array (VD).

You need to change the boot order in the BIOS to boot to CD/DVD first.

You will also need to load drivers. Are you installing 2008 or 2008 R2? If 2008, are you installing 32-bit or 64-bit?

In Bios boot order CD\DVD writer is not even on the list

Make sure that CD/DVD drive is enabled. There are two boot orders - one for the system boot devices and one for the hard drive options. You can also install via USB.
