Hi Jennifer,

Thanks for the quick reply! Following are the details you requested.

The system runs fine when the charger is connected, both with and without battery. When battery is present, it gets charged to 100% (at least that is what the battery indicator says).

No, I don't have another battery of the same make. I have an old battery but it has worn out quite a bit. Its max capacity (in mWh) is almost 30% of the designed capacity. The battery I am currently using is a new one I bought last week (original Dell battery from "Dell" seller at Amazon.com)

Power related events in SystemLogs:

  1. There are multiple logs with
    1. level=Information
    2. source=Power-Troubleshooter
    3. message="The system has returned from a low power state."
  2. There are multiple logs with
    1. level=Critical
    2. source=Kernel-Power
    3. message="The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly."
  3. There are a couple of logs with following meta-data, but they are dated far in the past (01 July 2015 and 22 Aug 2015). I am not sure if they are relevant.
    1. level=Error
    2. source=Kernel-Power
    3. message="The system firmware has changed the processor's memory type range registers (MTRRs) across a sleep state transition (S5). This can result in reduced resume performance."

Let me know if you need the entire XML formatted details of the aforementioned log messages. I have sent you the service tag of my system via private message.

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to us. While we look into the details of the system assist us with some more information.

*What happens when only the charger is connected to the system?

*Have you had the chance to connect any other battery to the system to check its performance?

*Also go to systemlogs and under power events check for system logs to see if any errors are listed.

Do send the service tag of the system via private message so that I can check the details and assist you further.

    Regards,

The label on the new battery looks exactly like the one I had on my previous battery that came with the laptop. I purchased from here, which mentions Dell as the seller. Is there some concrete way I can verify if it is an original Dell battery apart from comparing labels?

Since you didn' t buy directly from Dell, it could be counterfeit. Compare the labels.

The posted price is way below what Dell would charge. You could ask your Dell contact to verify the information on the Battery. If is looks exactly like a genuine Dell it could be "reconditioned", where the cells are not replaced. A better low cost option is a third party replacements with a three year warranty. I have purchased several good ones on Amazon for $20-25."
