Thanks for your response.  I was not trying to access a Blue-Ray disc but merely a CD printer set-up.  Does the lack of native support for Blue-Ray disable the functionality of the disc drive for non-BR functions?

I downloaded VLC and tried to play a Blu-Ray disc.  I got an error message that "The Blu-Ray Disc needs a libray for AACS decoding, and your system does not have it".  Not sure what this means.

Windows 10 has no native support for Blue-Ray.  Microsoft has a $15 app you can purchase -- and there are other applications you can buy (Cyberlink's PowerDVD).  There are also a couple of free alternatives to the paid software/plug-ins:

It sounds like it's at least recognizing the blue-ray disc -- if it is, but won't read a CD, it's likely the CD laser is faulty (it's separate from the DVD/Blue-Ray laser) and the drive will need to be replaced.

The computer doesn't read a CD, DVD or Blu-ray.    I had not considered that. the drive might be defective because the problem occurred at the time of the change to Windows 10. Thanks for the suggestion

If you have a bootable disc, will the system boot from it?

There appears to be a solution for that here:

I am making progress, but I am not sure why.  Yesterday I tried several things, most of which, I don't remember.  This morning I intended to try a bootable disc as suggested but found the original drivers disc that came with the computer and decided to see if that would load.  I put that disc in the  drive and it opened up.  I tried a DVD and it played, an audio CD and it played, a data disc and it opened up.

The remaining problem is Blu-Ray.  I Tried to play a Blu-Ray disc using VLC and got the following error message:  "The Blu-ray Disc needs a library for AACS decoding and your system does not have it." I realize this is likely not a hardware issue, but If someone can point me toward a solution or correct place to ask about it, I would be very appreciative.

Thanks

Ray
