Hi

Thanks for writing to us.

With the regards to your query, most of the times its caused by a DOA (dead on arrival) motherboard.

Remove the HD and switch on the machine and observe if its still shutting down.

Also try to power up the machine with one memory at a time .

let us know how it goes.

Regards

I removed the hard disk and it was still restarting by itself. So I put the hard disk back and I removed the 2GB RAM with easy access. This time, I managed to do a Pre-Boot System Diagnostics successfully, then the laptop restarted and did a chkdsk but unfortunately, again, it freezes during chkdsk (no hard drive activity light, blocked at 14 percent). Do I have to put the RAM back and then, remove the RAM that is behind the keyboard (more difficult access but I can do it)?

I forgot that it was not hard to remove the RAM behind the keyboard. I did it. I did a Pre-Boot System Diagnostics successfully, then the laptop restarted normally and did a chkdsk but unfortunately, again, it freezes during chkdsk

Let me know what the problem is.
