Hi Chris,

There is no way to disable the health check for the 2nd power supply. It is recommended to keep this supply plugged in, even if you only have one power source. You would still have redundancy with the 2 power supplies. It is my belief the system came with a 2 into 1 power cable. If not, the part number is 4D175.

Dell spare parts can be reached by phone at 1-800-357-3355.

Thanks for the quick response. And you are right, we have redundant power supplies in the servers, but currently only one UPS and one electric line, so all we'll survive is a server power supply failure. I do have a Y cord and adapter, but it looks like we'll be ordering a few more.

Thank you...

Chris

Has this changed with 2650's?  I have a bunch that were shipped with 2 and pulled some out for other servers that require 2 for redundancy.  is there a way to tell the system it only has 1 power supply and to stop complaining?

thanks

This happened months ago, and I don't remember the details. I think I just opened the box up and pulled the secondary power supplies out. Without them, the system didn't complain that they weren't plugged in. This also helped with the fan speed. Without the second power supply plugged in, the fans stayed pinned at 10K RPMs or whatever the max is. Our 4 PE 1750s made it sound like there was an airplane taking off in the rack. Now, they are only at full blast during the POST, after which they settle back down.

I briefly checked the BIOS settings on those machines to see if there was an option to disable the search for the second power supply and didn't immediatetly find one. There may be an option in the "F10 Utilies" Boot option, but I remember those being mostly diagnostic tools, not a method to change settings.

I hope this helps...to be honest, I dealt with this maybe 9 months ago, and I really don't remember all the details.

Chris

Thanks Chris, I have asked our TAM at Dell if he can find out for me.
