Thx for the reply. Gotcha on the no financing part, but should be able to put it on a cc after the fact correct?
Would have been alot nicer if we could have done that from the onset just bought what we wanted at one time but dell told us if we went over the 2000.00 mark then then we have to pay for it all and we could not do split pay 2000.00 with dell fiance and 300 with cc or whatever the total was.
You can purchase the warranty at its normal price (as if you had it when you placed the order) for 30 days after the invoice date. After that, the price is increased.
Aweomse do you know if we can pay for that with a credit card since we bought the pc with dell financing or are they gonna say u already at your limit 2 bad so sad ?
Within 45 days of invoice you get the same pricing as when you purchased the computer. I would recommend the CompleteCare if you are within 30 days of purchase (covers everything except for fire, theft and intentional damage.)
Otherwise the Mail-in service is good if you don't need you computer for up to 10 working-days. (you can only buy 2 years extra)
The third option is On-site service. If Tech support determines that you have a non-telephonically repairable hardware issue, they will dispatch an On-site technician with the proper part to where ever the computer is located at your convenience.
(The translation of this is you must fight with tech support until they believe that this is truly a hardware issue, then dell must send the part to the technician in you area (allow 3-5 days) then he will contact you within 24 hours of him recieving the part. This service is primarily available for replacement of: HD, CD/DVD drive, memory, or video card. Anything more invloved usually is shipped to Dell HQ and repaired there.)
More warranty is better than less and the On-site is available for up to 3 years, but is priced accordingly.
is all of that also explained somewhere on the dell.ca website?
also, what does the 3 year mail in warranty consist of? if somethign goes on my machine within say.. the next 2 years.. like a piece of hardware.. what does having the 3 year warranty mean for me?
i just ordered an inspiron 9100 and only got the 1 year warranty.. so i might try and get the 3 year after i play with this for a bit first

It should be explained under "extended service contracts". (On the american website, this link is at support.dell.com)
The mail-in warranty means that all parts and labor (and shipping) are covered by Dell in order to repair a hardware problem. (The coverage is for the entire unit, but doesn't cover accidental damage, fire, theft, acts of God, or intentional damage. It covers the AC adapter, but doesn't cover the battery (the battery has it's own 1 year, non-extendable warranty.))
within 45 days the cost for a 2 year ext of the mail-in for the 9100 should be approximately $169.00 + tax

The warranty can be financed. Dell can even set up a finance account to pay for the warranty.
