INSPIRON 5150 - UXGA LCD DIMS WHEN HARD DRIVE ACCESSED

Question

I have an 8 month old 5150, 3.06 P4, 512MB Ram with a 15' UXGA LCD,  64MB ATi MObility Radeon 9000 video card and a 40GB Ultra ATA HD.   The display dims when the hard drive is accessed.  This happens regardless of whether it is running on batteries or 110.   Any suggestions?

Does it do the same thing on an external monitor? If not, then the LCD has a problem.
