"When I turn on the system after it has been off for a while", This is a confusing phrase Stephen! Are you saying this happens when the monitor goes to sleep, but the system is still booted? Or, does this happen after windows shuts down, but the power is still on the the computer? I, at least, don't understand what you are asking?
It happens when I shut Windows down and turn the monitor off, then turn them both back on after a few hours. Dell tech support is telling me to update my video drivers to release # 9.97-031212a-013173c-Dell A03. The computer was just built and shipped a few days ago and has driver # 6.14.10.6378 installed from the factory. Isn't there an issue with the newer drivers? If not, why would a brand new PC ship with a driver dated 8-24-2003 when there is an updated driver dated 1-27-2004? They are also telling me to reseat the video card, swap the monitor with another PC ect. The usual jump through the hoops stuff. I can see this set up going back in 30 days. I don't want to because I got a really good price on the system, however I don't want to be stuck with a problem child.

I was getting the same screen effect when I cold-started the machine with my 2001FP except my effect would occur for a short period of time at a point during the boot-up when one of the WinXP logos was to appear and then the effect would immediately go away and the machine and monitor would boot to the desktop normally. I also had the "sleep/standby mode" problem that has been reported in this and other forums with Dell's and other mfg's LCD's with ATi and also apparently with nVidia cards. I don't know if your problem and mine are the same or even related but I gave all of this info to Dell tech support 2 days ago and yesterday they emailed me and told me they're replacing the monitor.
Thanks for the reply. Sounds like our problems are very much the same. What version of the ATI drivers came in your 8300 and have you insatlled a newer driver? Thanks again.
Got the machine in 9/03 and my ATi 9800 came with whatever drivers Dell ships them with. I eventually installed the Cat 3.7's which ran fine with my 1702FP. About the time I got the 2001FP in early 2/04, I installed the 4.1's and that's when the "sleep/standby" issues began. I then found the thread in Rage3D about the ATi drivers/DVI/LCD issue and started a "Heads-Up" thread in this forum and the video forum. I went back to the 3.7's but then I started to get the image corruption I described earlier. I finally went to Dell 2 days ago who, to their credit, immediately agreed to replace the monitor. The replacement shipped today and I should have it on Monday.
I've read alot of posts in several forums about these issues and its appears that they arise with both ATi and nVidia cards with LCD's made by different mfg's with monitors of different sizes running at difference performance levels. I don't know and I don't think anybody knows exactly what it is that causes these issues. In any event, my theory is that the 2001FP may be more prone to them simply because it is such a high-performance monitor.
I have this exact same issue. Oddly it only started recently. The monitor arrived on Wednesday and was inititially working perfect - none of these pulsating red/green pixel lines upon restart. Now that last day or two I see it as well. Only when I turn the system on after being off all night and it clears if I turn the LCD off and then on again. 9800pro, 4.3 Cats - DVI connection as well.
I actually have a replacement lcd on its way already because this one has an uneven brightness issue at the top. I guess I'll see if the new one has this same issue.
EDIT: My new monitor arrived with 7+ dead pixels so saddly I will be sending this back before I get a chance to see if it fixed the issue. I do wonder if the single link/dual link cable has any part of this though.
Well, at least I'm not alone. Dell is sending me a new Monitor also. All 3 of us have almost the exact same setup. Is anybody at Dell following this thread? If not, they may not be getting this information to the proper people so a fix can be made.
Has anybody found a resolution to this problem? I received my replacement monitor the other day. The first time I turned it on I could not get a picture at all until I rotated through all the inputs several times. Then the second time I turned it on cold, I had the red lines all over the screen even worse than the first monitor. Since then 3 cold turn ons and no problems. I hope to get this completely resolved before my 30 days is up in a couple weeks. If not, I will be forced to return the whole system and I don't really want to do that.
I'm on my 2nd 2001Fp. On cold start-ups, I still got the momentary display corruption. I went in to Settings and disabled my wallpaper (set it to "none") and the problems went away. I don't know if this is a "cure" but I'd appreciate it if you'd try it and let me know if it works for you.
