I've got it too, but no Borland or Sun software is part of the mix. I did just do a fresh installation of everything. Any ideas? Thanks.

OK. Thanks anhakah :)

So, now the Sun connection has been ruled out, what IS causing it? Sometimes the machine does resume correctly, but at least 50% of the time the screen flickers from black to dark grey as memory contents are reloaded from disk, but then goes black as soon as Windows takes charge.

Anyone?

Ditto again for my machine. About half the time, it comes back okay, and about half, the display goes dark after running through the "resume Windows" progress bar. One trick that has worked for me a couple of times, northnetuk.... After the display has gone black (and hard drive LED continues to blink), I've pressed the F4 key (the one that turns off the display) a couple of times, and lo and behold... the display comes back. Not sure if that trick works all the time yet or not, and it sure doesn't fix the problem, but it is a better remedy when it occurs than having to force a shutdown. Would still like a cure, if anyone knows one! Thanks.

Thanks anhakah :)

I have used your work-around quite a few times now, and it has brought the screen to life every time. This explains to me the actual cause of the problem - on Resume it assumes an external monitor for some bizarre reason. I have never once connected an external monitor!

For anyone else, the actual key-presses required are:

Fn+F4, and then

Fn

It always needs that one extra press of [Fn] before the screen switches back to LCD.

Shame no one from Dell feels the need to contribute though !? I would expect a company seeking to build a professional image in order to gain corporate sales would want to iron out glitches like this. I guess I'll be pointing my clients at HP/Compaq in the future, *MY* reputation depends on it.

Keith.

Yup, Keith, looks like you and I are all alone out here on this post. Glad the work-around has helped you out; and thanks for passing along your refinement of it. I guess we shouldn't hold our breaths for a more official answer or solution to this!

You're not alone, I've got the same problem: 2 out of 3 resumes from hibernation end up on a black screen. I can't wait to try your work-around!

Hi,

The work-around has been 100% successful. Saying that, I have not had to use it for a couple of months now as it appears the problem has gone away again as mysteriously as it started.

Good luck!
