I have the same issue only with an iPAQ.  I have the newest system and bios software as of 6/3/04.  I called Dell's support and they basically told me that since it recognizes it on boot up, then there isn't a problem with the usb port.  ok...but if you unplug the iPAQ and then plug it back in and the usb port doesn't recognize it then, this would indicate to me that there is a usb port problem...especially since this works undocked.  Basically, Dell's support doesn't have a fix for it.  Rebooting everytime you want to sync up doesn't seem like a streamlined solution to me!

How did you setup bluetooth sync'ing? I don't see an option for this in the HotSync Manager. Please explain. Thx, Dan

I have finally given up and started using the bluetooth connection from the T3 to my D600.  Works like a charm, but I am still upset with DELL.  No concept of customer service at all.

I actually found the "how to" on a .uk site.  Basically, you use the local serial port selection on Hotsync, and configure a connection (under connections) for BT to PC.  Here is the link:  http://www.clove-tech.co.uk/faqs/faq.asp?strAreaNo=345_5_4&intElement=100.

I have turned off the required authentication on my D600 for the Bluetooth serial port, as I found that even saving the authentication passwords, it often asked for them, which required me to close and restart Hotsync.  Turning this off might not be safe in some environments, so you may still have to fight through clsoing and restarting Hotsync occassionally, but at least I can Hotsync again, and quickly.

SUCCESS!  The right angle USB cable is the solution.

Dell don't get to feeling comfortable this is still a kludge* in every sense of the word. But at least I do not have to dock and undock multiple times a day to sync my palm.

Thanks DMcCormick for the lead and the link.

* Pronounced klooj. A derogatory term that refers to a poor design. Like hacks, kludges use nonstandard techniques. But, whereas a hack can connote a clever solution to a problem, a kludge always implies that the solution is inelegant.

Shame on you Dell......

Why can't Dell fix this problem? It would be nice to know if a fix soon forthcoming. If not I would buy the angled USB connector.

Hello all!

I'm just registered on the Dell forum, in order to solve some problem we have with the D600 in our company.

One of those is the D-Dock usb replication! The palm is one of the peripheral that doesn't work... the logitech quick cam is another one, that works correctly when plugged on the laptop, but not one the DDock!

Dell send us a new package named R77764 but nothing better!

Is anybody have tried this???

We cannot buy 900 usb angled cables!

I would open 900 help tickets with Dell. Perhaps that would get their attention. Or better yet, just ask for an RMA for 900 laptops that will surely get someones attention.

Good Luck!
