I looked at your order number and found that the system came with the Intel mini PCI 2100 card. I also want to make you aware of the hardware scanning utility on the Dell web site.
Go to the main support page.
Log in using the service tag on your system or by selecting the system type.
Click on the Current Configuration link below the system type in the upper left corner of the page.
Accept the agreement to perform the hardware scan.
Is there a way to find out from a remote location what type of
wireless network a pc card is communicating with, i.e. whether it
is of the 802.11b or 802.11g protocol?
The hardware scan will tell you what hardware is in a specified system. You will then have to look up the documentation on this hardware to find out if it supports your needs. The specifications on your card can be seen at the Specifications link at the Intel 2100 card site above.
