Hello desertmoon88,

Welcome to the Dell Community Forum,

I would like for you to remove the LCD hinge cover( it has your power button and leds on it) to see If this will resolve your problem. The reed switch which controls your system to go to standby is on this part and maybe bent. To remove you'll need a small flat head screw driver. If your LCD comes back on please contact Dell Tech Support to get this piece replaced. Hope this helps

You can email Dell by Clicking Here for assistance.

Please include your system service tag and a description of the problem and troubleshooting done to try to resolve it.

You can also call Dell Technical Support. The phone number to contact our US Mobile Computing Hotline is 800-822-8965 for Corporate/Government Accounts or at 800-247-9252 for Direct accounts.

You will be connected to a Technical Specialist who will help you resolve the issue over the phone or arrange the appropriate service.

If you are outside of the United States, you will need to contact Dell in your global area.

Thank you for choosing Dell.

Thanks,

I have exactly the same problem.

I have removed the LCD cover and examined the reed switch which appears to be OK.

Do you suggest that I remove the reed switch ?

If so which way do I lever it out, without breaking something.

Hi,

I tried reinstalling drivers and all (as adviced from the Dell Support Call Centre), and it doesn't work.

So, I decided to have a Dell technician over to my house to replace the graphic card and it is turning

well so far (fingers cross).

I have exactly the same problem.  I just purchased an inspiron 9100 [win-xp pro sp-2] [wuxga screen] and when I power on - the screen remains completely blank.  I can hear the computer booting up, but the screen stays blank.  The only temporary solution to this that I have found is to completely power off the computer, unplug the a/c cord from the computer, and physically remove the battery for a few seconds.  Then put the battery back in, plug the a/c back into the laptop and power on.  At this point it will usually work, but why will it never just startup properly without all the circus tricks?  This is a brand-new machine... not impressed at all.  Dell please do something to fix this issue for those of us that have just paid close to $3000 for a machine that should work.

Arsan, I had my problem solved by having Dell replaced my graphic card. Although I don't exactly know that is the real cause of the the problem or there was some bad connection, but after the card replacement, I have not had that problem again.

Hope that helps

I had a very similar problem when I first received my 9100. I attempted to resolve it through the help desk who were helpful, but without result.

The solution was to replace the video card.  I think it gets stuck in standby mode which blanks out the screen.

This was easily done through the NBD support. The service person arrived the next day with a new card and replaced it within an hour.

I would suggest that you do the same. I have had no problems since.

Hope this helps.
