It sounds like you have the screens operating as an "extended desktop" right now, when what you really want is to clone the display on both screens. I don't have an Nvidia card, so I don't know exactly where this option is, but I'd guess it would be in Display Properties - Settings tab - Advanced button, under the "Displays" tab. Try looking around in the advanced display properties for a clone option.
Thought so too, and I tried the clone, but the image ended up a mess on both screens (probably because the Digital/Laptop had such a high rez). Maybe it's just not doable -- having independent resolutions on both, particularly if the LCD 17" cannot handle the higher resolution of the Laptop's screen. I'll try the old method (drop the rez on the laptop down to 1280x1024, stretched to fit) and then reclone. I suspect it will work then. But that's not exactly what I was looking for.
