Will a Dell xps 430 motherboard work in a Dell xps 420?
Hello,
I am asking if a Dell xps 430 motherboard will work in my 420. The cases look identical.
The reason I am considering this is to get DDR3 Ram so as to have a faster computer.
My 420 is DDR2 and the 430 is DDR3
Anybody ever do the swap?

I have not seen anyone on youtube doing the switch. They use the same power supplies. The motherboards look identical to me as far as mounting holes and external sockets. Read the response by politbureau here.

Chris,
Thank you for posting the link to politbureau. I will not try to switch motherboards because I now realize I don't know enough to see it through.
So, I may buy an xps 430 and install my cards and hard drives in it (except for the ddr2 ram.
Or, I am thinking for my q6600 xps 420 is to install a q9650 cpu or a q9550. I have 8gb ddr2 presently in the 420.
Does either idea make sense?

The Q6600 actually scores pretty good against the other CPUs. At this point, I would put any money towards a new system with up to date hardware.
H786G QX9650 = $395
