HD replaced in 1545

Question

Replaced the HD in a Insperion 1545.  Laptop is up and running again.   On the other hand, the new HD is thinner and had a hard time plugging it in.  For the short term, I slid the caddy in and taped the cover piece.  Now I am afraid if  I tighten the screws to the HD through the bottom of the case or housing will damage the connection.  Could i get longer screws, apply lock tight to end of screws and hope?
