Broken Right Hinge Inspiron 5548 In Warranty

Hello,

I bought my Dell Inspiron 5548 in November 2015. My right hinge is making strange noises and finally it broke off. I want to know how could I get this fixed. I haven't misused it or dropped it at any point of time. since it is not even one complete year, im assuming my laptop is covered under the warranty. probably this is not the first complain Dell is receiving in this model since I saw previous posts complaining of the same problem.

Here I'm attaching the photo of the broken hinge as well as the bill that was given to me when i purchased my laptop.

Let me know whether i should post my service tag/express service code here.

A lot of Dell computers like this have this issue and Dell will not fix it for free, even if under warranty. Despite this being a recurring problem and not due to misuse, if you call Dell about the problem, they will try to charge you 160 USD to fix it.

This is a well know issues and design defect on this laptop.  It just happened to my wife's laptop.  Dell will repair it for $150 but only give a 3 month warranty on the repair.

I've got exactly the same problem. I used to buy Dell religiously because they had a quality product. When two laptops in a row failed I moved away to ASUS and was very happy. When I saw this model with the touch screen I thought I'd give Dell a try again and it was a big mistake. What a shame they don't take care of their customers. I've had mine a little more than a year but I guess I'll be leaving Dell behind again.

It seams this is an ongoing problem. Why don't we join our forces to get a recall?

I am out $1500 for 2 Dell laptops that both ended up having the exact same problem as described here.  The first one the hinge snapped and broke the network card as well as the case.  The second one, just the hinge broke and we can no longer open and close the laptop.  Dell will not stand behind their products nor will they admit this is a design flaw.   I'm done with Dell and will spread the word far and wide.   BTW, they wanted more than $400 to repair.
