I have been having the same issues for over a  year now with my Dell 3147 2 in1 .  I've called tech support 3 times to no avail.   They'd get the keysworking, but the next day after I shut down/restart, those keys wouldn't work anymore.  Then one time I was working in Notepad and the Internet at the same time then all of  sudden (after about 10 minutes) the keys started working.  Its not a keyboard hardware issue, it's more of  keyboard driver issue, I think. Another time, I was working in Mapuest and the same thing happened (those keys start working).  It must have something to do with having those programs open and their programming.  But, it doesn't always work. So, something is going on in the background   I think Dell needs to revisit their keyboard drivers for their products.  I've Googled this issue and it seems that there are  lot of Dell laptop users having the same issues.  If anyone can fix this, it would be great!

Hi KERELLOS,

What is the exact system model? What is the OS installed on the system?

Update the BIOS - http://dell.to/1n3X2po - enter the service tag and download the BIOS, update and restart the machine and check.

Restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us.

Also, run a custom test on the keyboard in pccheckup - http://dell.to/21y9GPi

If the system is under warranty, write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details. If there is no warranty, then we can help with a paid service call if required.

Keep us updated.
