Alienware M18x R2: Single loud beep when starting up

Sometimes it turns on and sometimes it does not.  It just does a BEEP pause BEEP pause BEEP until I turn it off.  The Alienware logo does not show in this case.

I believe this means either a bad motherboard or a corrupted BIOS or something.  How do I determine which it is?  I no longer have a warranty so I am hoping it is something I can fix myself but if it is the motherboard I assume I have no choice but to send it in.  Anyone know the cost if it is the motherboard?

Thanks.

First thing to do is unplug, remove or disconnect the battery and hold the power button for 30 sec.  Remove and reinstall both memory modules.  Try powering up again.

If you get the same single-beep pattern, the mainboard needs to be replaced.  They appear to run about $350 (parts-people.com);  if you don't replace it yourself, add another $100 or so with a shop for labor for a total somewhere around $450.

I take that back.  It did work.  I must have not put the memory back in all the way.  I did it again and now all is well.  Thanks!
