Strange noise coming from inside

Question

Occasionally, a beep will come from the interior of my Dell Latitude.  The beep lasts one second and does not seem to have any particular cause; I have heard the beep while using the laptop and while not using the laptop.  Every time the beep has sounded, the AC adapter was plugged in.  I'm not sure what to do.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I bought my laptop secondhand and I don't have any of the software or documentation that came with it. I've been using it for about two years. I'm not sure how much the previous owner used it.
