Hello. See the Recent Issues FAQ. Scroll down to XPS 9350 & 9550, Issue 2. It's a problem with the 9550. Several owners reported that the fix for them was to have the audio port circuit board replaced. Because you are still within the return period, you have the option of returning or exchanging the laptop. Or you might want to try the other 2 solutions in the FAQ, that only helped maybe one owner.

I just see one option "Speaker/Headphones" but on my other laptop I see multiple options, including Speakers/Headphones, HDMI and Headphones.

In the blank white area underneath "Speakers", right click and check the boxes to "show" disconnected and disabled devices. That should add "Stereo Mix" to the list. If you don't see HDMI audio or Digital when you plug in  an HDMI cable, you might have to reinstall the graphics driver, which is the controller for HDMI audio.

On Dell laptop with Realtek audio, you don't get a separate listing for Headphones while using the Realtek driver. If you switch from the Realtek driver to the Windows native driver, then with some versions of the native driver you do get a separate listing for Headphones, but lose the advanced features of the Realtek driver, such as WavesMaxx. The advanced features are controlled in the Dell Audio control panel.

The Show disconnected boxes and disables devices is already checked. And no it doesn't add anything else to the list. Also when I connect the HDMI Cable to it, the sound still comes out of my computer, HDMI is just having my screen display on the other screen. I even installed the Graphics driver again, it is still the same with HDMI. no change at all.

I went back to the native driver but as soon as I reboot, it switches back to HD Audio drivers. I love this laptop, but this issue makes me think that Dell didn't even test their premium line laptop that costs over $2000.

also @jimco, do you know if I get an exchange on this laptop if this would solve this issue or not? or is this something that is there with all the XPS 15 laptops? Would a different(config) XPS 15 help? Thanks!

If you mean the headphone issue, it's hard to say. Apparently some of the XPS 9550 units have a bad jack circuit board and I guess whether or not you get one of those units is a matter of luck, good or bad.

or is this something that is there with all the XPS 15 laptops?

I think the headphone jack issue is only with the XPS 9550. The other XPS models are the XPS 9530, XPS L501x, L502x, and L521x. The last 3 are discontinued now. I'm not sure if anyone has had the headphone jack issue with the XPS 9530.

Would a different(config) XPS 15 help?

See the Recent Issues FAQ to see what software solutions have been tried. But the majority of owners who have posted about the headphone issue said that replacement of the circuit board was what fixed it on their units.

Did you mean a different hardware configuration? I don't think you can get a unit without the circuit board, if that is the culprit.

@jimco I know that I can't get a computer without a circuit board, I meant to ask you that if there are some particular configuration set like(Hard Drive, Chipset, Graphics Adapter etc.) that are the defected ones, since you seem to know a lot about issues with these laptops. Since there was an issue earlier with Dell laptops where Graphics Adapter were causing Sound card to not work. Thanks for your help!

I'm not even sure what I meant about not being able to get one without the jack circuit board. Most of the Dell laptops don't have one (jack components are soldered onto the motherboard) but obviously, as you implied, you couldn't get an XPS 9550 without one.

I just know about the circuit boards being defective because a lot of owners have posted about the headphone issue with that model, and their consensus opinion was that replacement of the board is the best solution. Based on that, my guess would be that changing out the other components would not have an effect.

I'm resolved this issue when switching audio settings CD to DVD and back in DELL Audio application. But after plug out headphones - problem not resolved. This is software bug.
