Hello!  Your laptop wasn't developed with Windows 7 drivers it looks like so It may be hard to find them.  You could try installing Windows 8 drivers found here, or go to Intel's website and Realtek's website and see if they have anything.

Remember that Laptop drivers are customized by Dell, so you must get them from Dell and not Intel or others. That is why changing the OS is not a good idea. You might have to put up with drivers that don't work properly, if at all. Windows 10 is much better at finding compatible dell drivers. Consider reinstalling it.

You should clean install Windows 10 RS1 as Windows 7 isn't fully supported on this model.

However if you are dead set on Windows 7 then you should use up to date Windows 7 64 Bit installation media so the USB 3.0 ports work natively.

Driver wise the following will likely work.

Thanks for the responses, much appreciated.  My initial problem was that i didn't have the correct drivers for the network card.  I was able to find one that worked (for Windows 8) and successfully connect to the internet.  I then installed Windows 10, which was so much easier, and i'm good to go.
