Reloading windows 8.1 from recovery media not recognizing COA in Bios

We recently purchased a used dell Inspiron 660 from a computer
recycler. They had removed the hard drive. We have replaced the hard drive. We got
a Dell Windows 8.1 recovery media for windows 8.1 products 64 bit DVD on Ebay. It
has PN JDNFT on the DVD and PN ORGH4G on the label on the sleeve seal. When
beginning to reload Windows with this DVD it does not automatically find the COA in
the Bios and it asks for a COA Key. I used an utility and found the Bios key. I tried
manually entering this key and it says that it is an invalid key. Do I have the incorrect recovery disk, or is there another problem? Windows 8 label indicates that the computer originally had window 8 (not pro).

8.1  media will not recognize 8.0 keys.

You have to use the Non Activation Key and then change it online.

Once installed and online you run Slui.exe 4

Showkeyplus may be required to get the actual key in bios

Version history: Update Version 1.0.6125 Bugfix:

  • Version check returning null error

Bug fix:

  • Product key checking referencing incorrect dll. on Windows

Since you have 8.1 media you will need to use the 8.1 home key.

Install now, Activate later

In previous versions, it was possible to install Windows without key, run it as trial for up to 120 days, and enter a product key later. This option on first sight seems to have been removed as of Windows 8.

Pre-install Windows 8.x or Windows 10 with a generic key. These keys can only install Windows. It's not possible to activate using these keys.
