I do not understand the phrase, "location of the contacts on the ribbon connector and the socket". According to the documentation, the keyboard cable just slots into the port under the latch? Have you reseated it?
Thanks for answering. I assumed I had somehow damaged the ribbon when re-connecting it and was hoping I could 'repair' it. Today, I had it off again to replace the unreliable Dell wifi adapter and didn't see anything wrong with the ribbon or the socket, Still no back light (which I really miss), but at least I can stay connected,
The backlit keyboards have a second cable that needs to be plugged into a separate connector on the mainboard - the baclight is not connected through the main keyboard connector.

Our internal documentation is lacking. It does not show the orange cable shown here by partspeople.
