Optiplex 780 compatibility
Ok so I am trying to upgrade the ram in my optiplex 780. I am trying to upgrade it to 4gb so I can run a program for my school classwork. I know if it's 32-bit I can only have 4gb readable. The ram stick in it is a 2gb pc3-10700 667Mhz part number NT2GC64B8HC0NF-CG. Well I tried taking a ram stick out of my optiplex 3020. It's a 4gb pc3-12800 800Mhz part number HMT451U6BFR8C-PB.
My question why do I only get beeps when after it's inserted? Why would it not be compatible if it's out of another dell optiplex? I read somewhere that it is possibly too slow for it to read it.

Hi spellman1989,
Thanks for posting.
Unfortunately not all Optiplex RAM is interchangeable. The reason you are hearing the error beeps is because the new RAM is incompatible. To find compatible RAM with a guaranteed return policy check out Crucial: http://dell.to/2ga7NY5
