U2515H monitor does not connect with Latitude E5470

Question

Hi, I've recently purchased a new Latitude E5470 laptop. It connected just fine with a second monitor (old Samsung monitor). However after purchasing a U2515H monitor from Dell (promising reviews galore) there is just one tiny (I mean major) issue. It does not get recognized. I purchased a Mini Display Port to HDMI cable, since the cables that come with the monitor do not suffice. I tried turning off & unplugging the cables of the monitor. No luck. Once I reconnect the mDP cable it automatically gives the message: Entering power saving mode. And after selecting it in the port menu is shows that it is not getting a signal. Several help forums point me towards the OSD menu, but I cannot acces it for the display keeps asking which port I am using... I am at my whits end, how do I get my monitor to connect to my laptop? U2515H video in ports = HDMI/HDMI/DP/mDP

Latitude E5470 video out ports = VGA/HDMI

A laptop HDMI out port cannot upconvert to a monitor DP or mDP in port. The cable you bought is designed to do the opposite =
Laptop mDP out port --> mDP to HDMI cable --> Monitor HDMI in port

You should get an HDMI to HDMI cable =
Latitude E5470 HDMI out port --> HDMI to HDMI cable --> U2515H HDMI in port
