Dell latitude E4200 Battery Y082C v X602C
I know this is a long shot but both the Y082C and X602C are 6 cell 58Wh batteries. Anyone know the difference between the two?

Unfortunately I'm unable to locate that part number, perhaps it has been changed over the years. As for your other question, I don't have any data on that particular premise, however, I do know that the batteries have a finite number of charge-discharge cycles. Once that limit has been reached, the battery will no longer function as it had in the past. Now if a battery sits on a shelf for 3 years, does that mean the charge-discharge rule no longer applies? or does it mean that the cells discharged on their own, and will no longer recharge? Not sure here, but I personally would go with a new battery rather than trust a 3 year old one; unless I was getting it for free or was under no obligation to pay if it didn't work.

Hi MarcMarc,
Thanks for posting.
The X602C is a 58Wh battery made by Samsung. The Y082C battery is a 28Wh battery http://dell.to/2ozJVX9
And, the Y084C is a 58Wh battery made by Dynapak
Usually the part number difference is only due to a different manufacturer.

Hi Robert,
Thank you for your reply. Although I quoted Y082C I meant to type Y085C; any idea who might have manufactured the Y085C?
Do you think that a "genuine Dell" battery manufactured three years ago would still be in good health? I have been offered both a Y085C and a X602C as brand new but three years old.

Robert,
Thank you for taking the time to do the research.
I agree that a newer battery is preferable to an older battery. I live in the UK but the link you gave me will come in handy when I next visit the USA if I cannot find one here.
Thank you.
Marc
