Had this same thing happen on my system playing Neverwinter nights. Are there any programs running in the background? Freezes like this usually (not always) mean you maxing out your ram. To fix mine I removed all optional items in the startup list, haven't had the problem since.
The thing is, it doesn't freeze - the action keeps going, the sound is still running, the bots or people keep shooting and talking etc., but the input isn't recognized. If I was moving forward when it happens, I'll contiune to move forward until it starts accepting input again.
Everything else runs perfectly. I get awesome frame rates and all that - there's just this weird bug in games occasionly.
There's no spyware on the machine, I formatted it as soon as I got it. The only start up programs are trillian, and dell quick set.

Latest BIOS and video driver? Checked for spyware lately?
