Inspiron 5755 Not recognizing External Dell U2211H Monitor

Hello,

I have an inspiron 5755 with an AMD A8-7410 APU with AMD Radeon R5 Graphics. I am trying to connect my laptop to my external Dell U2211H monitor.

I was a support technician for moer than 8 years, so here's what I've done so far, along with general issue information.

I was able to get the external monitor to work with the laptop for all of a day with a DVI to HDMI adapter. However it took some wiggling to get it to work and when it stopped working I purchased a Display Port to HDMI adapter in case the DVI port was the issue, which still isn't working.

I have tested both adapters, and they both work fine. and I have tested the external monitor, which works fine.

The monitor recognizes that it is plugged into something, but it says it is not receiving a signal from the laptop.

I know the monitor is good, both adapters are good and the HDMI cable is good.

I've updated every driver I could find for the laptops current configuration (only thing Ive changed is more memory and an SSD Hard Drive, but it was working with both those in) and specifically for the R5 and this specific external monitor. I've also updated the BIOS to the latest "A15" version.

Id really like this up and running again, so I'm open to ideas!

Its not something as simple as 'detect display' as no display is detected and the display settings show only one monitor.

The Inspiron 17-5755 only has the one HDMI out port. A computer HDMI out port cannot upconvert to a monitor DP in port via a straight cable (HDMI to DP) . You would need an active converter =

Computer HDMI out port --> HDMI to HDMI cable --> HDMI in to DP out converter --> DP to DP cable --> Monitor DP in port

Or a computer HDMI out to monitor DVI converter cable. Now, link to the specific adapters you are using.

DVI --> HDMI (This worked for a day)
I have seen very little success with those. My advice, get a straight HDMI to DVI cable.

DP --> HDMI (Didn't/Doesn't work, not surprised about that one now though)
Right. Designed to do computer DP out port to monitor HDMI in port. Not the opposite. From their site =
Portable adapter connects a DisplayPort (DP, DP++, DisplayPort++) equipped laptop or desktop to an HDTV, monitor, or projector with HDMI input; An HDMI cable (sold separately) is required.

Tired this too, because we happened to have it, but didn't expect it to work, and of course it didn't:
Form their site, "Connects a DVI output to an HDMI input". So computer DVI out to monitor HDMI in. Not the opposite.

That may explain why the DP converter isn't working, but that still leaves the question of the DVI output that worked for a day...

I haven't used an active DP converter yet though.

Here are the cables I've used/tried:
