My laptop wont play any sound.

I have a Dell P20T and i have never had any issues till now. I was trying to play a movie for my kids using windows media player and even the Video app that came preinstalled on my laptop, yet no sound will come out. I thought maybe it coukd be an issue with my speakers but i have tried plugging my headphones in and that osnt working either. It has just recently started, before i never had any issues. I didnt use my laptop for a few months but even after all that time it was still ok. Any help woukd be great. Thank you so much.

Hello. Have you tried playing some audio from the laptop's hard drive, for example an mp3 or a wav file?

If your laptop doesn't have an optical drive, what was the source of the movie, for example streaming off the internet, or from a usb optical drive, etc?

Many audio issues can be resolved by downloading and installing a fresh copy of the audio driver for the model.

Dell P20T

The Dell support site doesn't list Inspiron models under that type of name. It uses 4 digit model numbers instead. When I googled P20T, it seems to be the Inspiron 3147 model, which is an 11" laptop/tablet. If you don't know if 3147 is the model number, you can use the model finder utility of the parts-people (supplier of Dell replacement parts) to find the service tag number and the model.

Download this Realtek audio driver, only if you have an Inspiron 3147, with Windows 10.

Download this Realtek audio driver, only if you have an Inspiron 3147, with Windows 8.1.

If you reply back, please mention which operating system is on the laptop.

There could be separate issues, one for the headphones and a different one for the speakers. If you install one of the drivers and the headphones work but the speakers still do not work, then run the ePSA audio test to check for speaker failure.
