I see the older MacPro has Thunderbolt 1.0 and the newer MacPro (successfully running 2717D) has Thunderbolt 2.0. Is there a way to temporarily use the monitors at a lower resolution temporarily until our new MacPro computers arrive next month? Would using a different type of cable/connection help? Can something be adjusted in the monitor itself to make it work? Is there a driver for older Macs that is needed?

studiogeek,  have you found a solution for this problem?  I am looking at the same issue with the 2717D as a possible replacement for 200 Apple LED 27" monitors.  Also, is the problem with the DisplayPort1.1 vs 1.2 within the older Mac Pro tower boards, or in the video cards?  Is there a video card that's compatible with the older Mac Pro towers that supports DP1.2 that would fix this issue?  Any help would be appreciated!

The Apple proprietary operating system and hardware are not tested by Dell on this monitor. So this will be best guess support. You should also post on the Apple Discussions Forum and see if they can offer some insight or troubleshooting steps.

The newest Thunderbolt 3/USB-C is not supported by our monitor cables. On the newer Apples, you have to purchase specific Thunderbolt 3/USB-C to DP or mDP cables.

The Dell mDP to DP cable does work with the older Thunderbolt 1 and 2. In a dual U2717D setup, this is how it should look =

Computer TB1or2/mDP out port --> mDP to DP cable --> #1 U2717D DP in port (Menu- Display- MST On)
#1 U2717D DP out port --> DP to mDP cable --> #2 U2717D mDP in port (Menu- Display- MST Off)
