If you order from the SB site, I believe there is an option to use Windows 2000 SP4.

Out of cuiosity why would you want windows 2000 instead of XP?

I really don't like XP and all of its "features."  I want Windows 2000 because it was a simple, stable OS.

You can easily turn off all the added XP features and never be able to tell the difference between XP and 2000.

Is it possible to get the Inspiron 9100 series notebook with Windows 2000 installed instead of Windows XP?  Will all the the hardware be able to work with this OS?

Thanks.

I ordered my 9100 from the Small Business site and was given the option of getting Wondows 2000 instead of XP. I can't answer your other question about compatability, but would guess that Dell wouldn't offer Win2K if it wasn't.

Thanks for the info.

When did you purchase your laptop?  I went to the small business site but they only listed Windows XP Home or Pro.  I'll have to try e-mailing or calling Dell to see what can be done.

System Builders can still install it with legitimate licenses until 3/31/05. (Dell has it as an option on Latitude laptops).

I have to run Win2K on my laptop;  Windows XP is not authorized on my client's network.

Sorry, I must have been mistaken. I could have sworn Win2K was offered on the 9100 when I ordered. I checked and you can get it on the Latitude line of laptops. Call Sales and see if they'll install it for you.

try calling sales and see if you can get it installed.  That's your only option for the 9100.  Like the previous post said 2k is off the market except for licensed builders.

Guess it depends where you are then.  They took all the copies off the shelves here when microsoft ended its life on the 31st.
