inspiron 1100 and 5150 running slow

Question

Hello; I have a question for you all. We have several laptops here, and it seems that most of the 1100 laptops run very slow, either connected or disconnected to the network, and they are mainly plugged in when this happens. I have only been able to verify this once, as most of the time when I receive the phone call that it is running slow, as soon as I get over there, it is working fine. From reports of what is going on, the programs will be delayed by about 30 seconds for opening, and there is a delay on mouse clicks and typing. Any input as to what is going on here is greatly appreciated. Unfortunately, I do not have the laptops in front of me right now as the users who have them are in SF. Thanks; Rob

The operating systems are windows xp pro sp1. The software that is installed is: Office 2003 Standard, sonicwall global vpn client, citrix, crystal reports, and one has cognos installed. The laptops are mainly used for ms office though.

I was searching through thius site, and I found that the 1100 only has a 4100 rpm hdd... I agree that it would cause it to run slow, but I dont think it would cause periodic slowness

I personally believe that it could be a heat issue. If you read the sticky on the top of this thread, it tells you of the issues with the 5150 and the heatsink. I'm sure it should also apply to the 1100 and the 5100.
