SCM Fast Infrared Port not recognizing other devices nearby..

Question

Switching to a new notebook (Inspiron 8600) and wanted to utilize the Ir ports to transfer some files from Inspiron 8200 over to 8600. The 8200's Ir port shows that it is working properly in the device manager but it does not recognize the Ir activity from devices nearby. It is enabled and using COM 3 in BIOS. I know it worked previously because I used it to synch cellular contact lists. This process of transferring folders and files from one XP Pro Insp. 8200 to another XP Pro Insp. 8600 should be a lot easier than I am making it. Thanks in advance for salient advice.

By default, the 8600's IR port is not enabled...you have to enable it in the BIOS - have you done that?

Did you ever get the Infrared port working on your 8600?

If so what did you do?

I'm attempting to get mine going but it doesn't seem to acknowledge the phone l'm trying to communicate with.

I have enabled the Infrared in BIOS. The Wireless.lnk says it's working but there is no comms.

What am l missing?

By the way the manual syas l can set either Fast or Slow infrared working in the BIOS. But there is no such facility in BIOS Ver A04.
