How is your router set up (configs, etc)?

I have a 600m and Linksys 11b v.4 router which I just picked up last week.  I am typing perfectly fine right now.  Please let me know your settings for both the notebook and the router.

I have a typical setup where the router is connected to the modem. Almost all the settings are factory defaults. I resolved almost all the issues by disabling DHCP on the router and using a static IP. Apparently, the laptop was having a hard time resolving the DNS server.

I still can't get WEP/WPA to work, and I've researched the issue more, and I've found that most people can not get it to work either, simply because encryption (either WEP/WPA) does not work very well on the Linksys. I'm using MAC filtering and disabled SSID broadcast plus changed the SSID name, so I'm hoping that's enough for now.

If you've gotten encryption to work, let me know.

You should try enabling SSID broadcast. It stabilises the connection. I assume you have installed all MS fixes and Driver updates.

Yes, I've got all the latest patches/fixes.

Have you managed to get WEP/WPA to work on your Linksys?

I am running WEP perfectly fine.  Which connections properties are you using... the XP or the Intel one?  I think it might be your adapter settings.

Can you tell me how you setup the WEP settings in XP, specifically what did you use under "Network Authentication" and "Data Encryption"?

Also, can you tell me how you setup wireless security on the router?

Thanks!

Router Settings: WEP >>> 128bit >>> Wep key >>> SSID Broadcast disabled

Notebook Settings:  (Encryption)WEP >>> inputted wep key  (Authentication you can leave default)

It is recommended to change WEP often.  Got a new Linksys a/b/g card and will implement WPA soon.  Not much to it.  Hope this helps.

Did you generate the WEP key on the router or did you manually enter it? And what setting do you have for "Network Authentication" on the computer?

Thanks for all your help. I really do appreciate it :)

I generated my WEP using passphrase.  For netowork authentication if using WEP, OPEN or SHARED are your options.

You want to disable the microsoft zeo config as well.  I was getting dissconnected every couple of minutes until I disabled zero config in XP.  Now I get solid connection w/o dropped signals.  Let me know if this works for you.  Since we both have a 600m and bef11s4 v4 router you shouldn't have anymore problems after using these settings.

Thanks for all the tips! I will try it soon. I think my problem is that I had Windows Zero Config enabled. What does that do anyway?

It uses win to configure wireless settings automatically.
