Yes, that is right I did call and they told me there was a connection in the older inspiron modular bays that allowed for a battery to be used in them were now this connector is missing so the only battery option is to get a second primary and swap it out as needed.
the 8500 and 9100 modular bays may be differnt sizes, i remember the older modbay dells i used at work were twice as high as the current modbays of the 9100. so they could fit a sizeable battery. with the modbay the 9100 has.. about a 15 min battery could fit in there. I saw in another 9100 thread in which you posted in someone (maybe you after you posted this) mentioned that they called dell support and were told that there were no power connections in the 9100's mod bay.
