My 1703 does not have this thick line you speak of. Does this thick line show up all the time or just the area that is shown ?

I had an older LCD NEC monitor that showed a thick line that you now have and NEC exchanged it for another newer model. Call tech support and get a new one if you are still under the 21 day return policy period or they will send you out a refurbished unit. I don't know if it can be fixed. Good luck torr. and sorry for the trouble you are having . My LCD is just great !
