Battery Not Charging
The battery indicator on my M17x R4 is telling me that the computer is plugged in but the battery is not charging. I checked all the connections and uninstalled and reinstalled the driver and rebooted the computer but the battery is still not charging. I did some Windows updates yesterday and afterwards I noticed that the battery indicator was not the same as it had been. It was back to normal when I booted up earlier and the battery was charging. This problem just occurred in the past few hours. The computer is not hot, which I read could cause the battery not to charge. My power button still flickers which usually indicates that the battery is charging. I'm at a loss. Any suggestions on what could be causing this problem and how I can solve it?

Hi,
Try flashing the BIOS firmware to the latest version, click here for the download link. After the update, check if the AC adapter is charging the battery.

Thank you for the suggest but that is the version of the BIOS I'm already running. It's over 2 years old. I have not been able to find any new updates for this computer on the Dell Support site for a very long time. The battery is charged now. It started when I booted up earlier and is now fully charged. I'll be keeping an eye on it throughout the day. Hopefully it was just something minor and it won't occur again. If it does I will have to look into other solutions.

Thanks for confirming this. You could also try doing a power drain, follow the steps below to do a power drain.
