I'm having the same problem after a reinstall of XP also. It shows no Availible Networks on my

Wireless Networks Tab. Even though I'm sitting in front of the Wireless Router (Dell TrueMobile 2300)

which is working fine with a Desktop with a Lan connection. I have no conflicts in my device manager

either and all proper drivers were installed after the install of XP. I do however have a Failed Memory test

when I do the diagnostics with the Dell TrueMobile Wlan Card utility. Is this wireless card junk and needs

to be replaced (only 2 months old) or is their something I'm missing here? Seems like I should have a

Wireless icon availible in the Available networks like I did before I did the reinstall of XP. Anyone care

to comment? Thanks... I have a TrueMobile 1300 Mini-Pci Wireless Card.

Chasm1000,
Go into Bios and make sure the Wireless is "on". This fixed my problem. Somehow it turned up as "off". After that everything was great. The card picked up signal and everything. Hope this helps.

Thanks I figured it out. It was the outdated driver that was provided by Dell on the Software disk

that you use after you reinstall XP. I also had no sound with the only Audio driver that was on that

disk also. I didn't show a conflict in the Device Manager with the Wireless driver either so to the guy

that first posted in this thread check to see if there is a newer driver here as I did and you may be up

and running again as I am. I wasted this whole Memorial Day weekend goofing with this 2 month old

5150 because of old drivers that were provided by Dell on the disks. I expect more for my money than

this. Please Dell fix this for future customers as people do have to reinstall XP from time to time. Thanks

Wow, I don't think that this is by chance, but I had the exact same problem today. I have a D800 laptop and my wireless just stopped working today.

A virus scan found "Downloader-IQ" and "Adware SaveNow". I appreciate the tips in this thread. Especially about checking the bios. I was pulling my hair out on this one! Why would my wireless just stop working? I also have a G4 laptop, and it was connected to the wireless router just fine! And my wired desktop was connected fine as well.

Somehow my wirelss setting in the bios got set to "off". Go figure? Anyway, my theory is that somehow the Downloader-IQ trojan caused it. I have never heard of this before, but it's beyond me at this point. I changed the setting back to "on" and I'm up and running again.

Did any of you guys have the "Downloader-IQ" trojan? Thanks again for all your help with this one. I was dead in the water before I came accross this thread.

I'm having the same problem after a reinstall of XP also.  After I did the re-install, I downloaded the driver from the Dell web site, then, I made sure the "Wireless" is turned ON in the BIOS.  It shows no Availible Networks on my Wireless Networks Tab. Even though I'm sitting in front of the Wireless Router which is working fine with a Desktop with a Lan connection. I have no conflicts in my device manager either and all proper drivers were installed after the install of XP.  Seems like I should have a Wireless icon availible in the Available networks like I did before I did the reinstall of XP.   This seems to be happening to alot of people? Thanks...

JamesPrevallet,

Is SSID broadcasting turned off in your router? If so, XP will find no available wireless networks, and revert to "ad-hoc" mode. Since there aren't any wireless cards in the vicinity configured in "ad-hoc" mode, that leaves you with no wireless networks.

This D-Link article explains how to correct XP's wireless network settings so you can connect to an "invisible" infrastructure (Access Point/Router based) network.
