Finally I figure out the course of the problem. In office I use a docking station. When I took the laptop from the station and went home, I used to click the "eject PC" button to put the laptop into the sleep mode. I think either the station has defect or the docking driver is not good. So when the button is clicked, the network function died. I found out the problem by clicking "eject PC" button then take away the laptop from docking and connecting it directly to corporate LAN, the laptop still could not recognize the network and all IP addresses became zero. So I know it is not my home wireless network problem. It must be related to the docking station. So I did not click the eject PC but clicked hibernate, then took the laptop away from docking and went home, this time the laptop resumed from hibernate and connected to my home network smoothly. Only problem is when the laptop resumed, a window appeared protesting “unsafe undocking".

Hi,

I had the same exact poblem and I just fixed it today. I upgrades the BIOS to A12 and upgraded to the latest version of the Systems Software. I tested a few times ejecting from the D/Port and connectiing to my wireless network via DHCP, everything works fine now. :-))

Tony,

Thanks. I upgraded BIOS ans system software, v.3.4.0, A15. It works with "eject PC".  Great! Yesterday I called Dell support. She let me to delete docked hardware profile and redock the laptop. it did not work.

Then I searched MS knowledge base. it is a bug of W2K SP4 with KBQ # 818635 described in

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;818635

I read the description of Dell Notebook System Software, v.3.4.0, A15. It said "Added Microsoft fix for KBQ818635. (Windows 2000 SP4 TCP/IP undocking bug)". So this upgrade fixed the bug.
