An NVIDIA graphics card was not detected in your system

Question

Hi, About 3 or 4 months ago, i bought an alienware m17x r4. I hadnt experienced any sort of difficulties with it until today, when it suddenly rebooted, prompting an error screen that told me to look up for some error called 'dpc watchdog violation'.About an hour ago, i tried to play fallout new vegas but the fps were amazingly low, and when i tried to update the nvidia drivers, the following message appeared: 'NVIDIA installer cannot continue. The graphics driver is not supported'.When looking up for the nvidia option in the control panel, a message appeared: NVIDIA display settings are not available. An NVIDIA graphics card was not detected in your system.Any help, please? Ive looked up on google and cant find any answer. Besides i dont want to risk damaging the computer any more.

Hi Aal92,

Please share the operating system installed.

Please try to perform a clean install of the drivers for the graphics card. Refer to the link http://dell.to/1fERNL2 for step by step instruction on how to uninstall and install the video drivers.

Since the video card is not being detected, you may try these steps:

Turn On the computer. Press F2 when see the Alienware Logo.
On the BIOS, check under Discrete Video Card to have the NVIDIA Card.
Verify the Ac/adapter is 180 watts or higher.
Load Windows normally.
Try FN + F7 to switch from Integrated to Discrete.
Update the System Bios to last version.

Note: Before updating BIOS please ensure that:

*Battery is 10%> or >10% charged
*Battery charger should be connected
*No external devices (flash drives, printers, external hard drives) should be connected.
*All other programs should be closed and documents saved

Thank you very much!I tried your first recommendation, reinstalling the drivers for the graphic card. I found out that the drivers for the NVIDIA GPU had misteriously disappeared, so i downloaded and installed them and now everything works fine. Thanks!

I have the same problem with Aal92. My pc is Dell Vostro 5460, ubuntu base system. Now I'm using window 7.

My driver is NVIDIA Geforce. I don't know whether I can use your method to fix it or not. Kindly confirm. Thank you very much.
