alienware m17x r3 video drivers help

 it's a m17x r3 with switchable graphics amd 6870m hd/ intel 3000 hd
i haven't had any problems with the games i play since they are all older games, but i recently started playing final fantasy 14 i was under the assumption that the graphic drivers i installed were installed correctly since they show up under display under device manager but when i'm in final fantasy under display all it is showing is the intel 3000 and from what i can tell every game is running the intel 3000 and not the amd 6870m.  if i just use the *** *** outdated dell drivers then the amd card shows up as the main card instead of the intel 3000.  so how do i get rid of the *** dell drivers and use the amd sites drivers.  i've wiped clean the display drivers and everytime i install the amd sites drivers the amd card says it's updated but no programs will actually use the card and the graphics fall back to using the intel 3000.  am i just stuck using the *** *** outdated drivers from dell?

those are the drivers i'm having problems with.  i wiped the old drivers to where in the device manager it says standard vga i then install the intel hd 3000 drivers then i install the amd drivers but like i said, the amd card is not being used at all. the new drivers say the card is there but when i launch a game does not matter on the game the amd card is never used it only uses the intel card.  if i uninstall both drivers then reinstall the intel then the dell drivers the amd card becomes usable.  the problem with the dell drivers is they are so old and outdated, the lastest update was in 2013

have not recieved a anwser that helps me out yet.  would be nice to go back to playing games at 60 plus fps instead of playing at 15 -25 fps.  i know it's a driver issue cause when i did manage to get the drivers working for all of one day the games would run at 60 plus fps now no matter what i do the drivers don't want to work right.  so any help would be appreciated
