Thanks Jimmy, there's a lot of information there, but I'll read it all. I talked to a Dell supervisor today who said it sounds like there is a software conflict somewhere (no big surprise there), and it might be easier to reinstall the operating system than try to figure out where it is. I'm not sure that I have that much time or energy, but he might be right.
I have a Dell Dimension running Win98SE and a Linksys wireless pci card that Dell sold me. We have a Dell Truemobile 1170 that is hooked up to a DSL line.
In case there's a problem with resources on the PCI bus, you might want to try moving the Linksys card to a different PCI slot.
The IRQ settings table looks OK, but that doesn't mean there aren't available PCI slots on the motherboard that you could try moving the wireless adapter to. You'll have to open the machine up to find that out.
You might also want to try "Reset Configuration Data" in the BIOS, under advanced CMOS settings. I think that's the correct way to do that for your machine, but the reset method depends on the specific model.
Do you have the most current BIOS installed?
(edit - Clarified physical board location versus IRQ settings.)

Thanks for the suggestion, but I think I've run out of slots. Can you take a look here and see if it looks like I'm right?
