I have the same problem on my wife's computer. The SBC Yahoo screen comes up on boot up. When I close the screen, I get the RASAUTOU error. Closing the box brings the screen back. Our computer is connected to a modem. So far, I have tried checking the "Never dial connection" in the Inteernet Properties/connection screen. This worked on my computer which runs Windows 98SE. I was told this by the SBC Yahoo rep. However, that box does not always stay checked for some reason and I have to do it again. This does not seem to work at all under Windows XP. On my wife's computer I have also went to msconfig/start and disabled all the checked boxes and restarted the computer. This did not work either. Then I uninstalled SBC Yahoo, manually removed all programs and directories involving SBC Yahoo, and used a utility to remove all registry items with missing links or no data. This did not solve the problem either. I then wrote to Dell and they gave me an automated response on this and my clock problem. I am giving them the benefit of the doubt and checking out their recommended sources of information before I get back to them. You were the only one I found with the same problem. The two computers are basically independant from each other so I doubt there is a virus that spread from one to the other. However, besides using the SBC Yahoo installation disk, I also installed Zone Alarm from the disk. On the other computer, I had installed Zone Alarm Pro after upgrading to SBC Yahoo. I had no problems with Yahoo before this and during its use. However, I was having a problem with Norton AntiVirus 2002 and Hotmail. I uninstalled Zone Alarm Pro and reinstalled Zone Alarm. Checked on the updates and found Zone Alarm had one. Updated my computer and ran into the SBC Yahoo screen problem. My wife's computer was running fine with SBC Yahoo before I updated her Zone Alarm program. However, I was doing so many things to the computers that I cannot be sure if the Zone Alarm update really was the cause. Are you using Zone Alarm and did you update it recently?
I'm getting exactly the same error, and, probably not coincidentally, I've also got SBC/Yahoo/Prodigy. The problem just started, when I foolishly took MS's advice to upgrade my Internet Explorer because of a very minor error I got. The installation got hung up,and never did finish, and I had to reboot when it locked up. Now, I can't access the internet thru my DSL/wireless network. It keeps bringing up the SBC dial screen. Did you guys ever resolve the problem?
I have a Dimension 4400. My husband had the same error message show up when he closes the connection manager for our SBC Yahoo. It would only happen on his user name until recently. We had to format our computer, and I reinstalled the SBC Yahoo software, and he no longer had trouble, but I did. So I called Dell, and she had me go to Run...MSCONFIG...STARTUP TAB...DISABLE ALL...CLOSE. Then I had to restart my computer. I was still having the problem, so she had me turn off my computer and when I turned it back on she told me to start pressing the F8 key until a screen came up w/ a list of options...then she had me highlight LAST KNOWN GOOD CONFIGURATION and press enter. Then select Windows XP and press enter again. My computer then began to restart, and I have not had any problems since. I don't know if this info. will help anyone with this problem, but I know how frustrating it can be, so I thought I'd share my experience.
I ended up doing basically the same thing, reverting to a previously good configuration (before installing the IE and some Windows updates). After that, the problem went away. Let that be a lesson to me: only install one update at a time, and make sure it doesn't cause problems before installing anything else!
